10 items or less: checking out Lidl
aka my new favorite place
LIDLs are popping up around nyc! I first heard about them when nik bentel was selling a lidl croissant bag that I’m STILL MAD got sold out by “scalpers” the minute it dropped. I wasn’t even a lidl stan I was just obsessed with a purse shaped like a brown paper bag with a croissant coin purse like come onnnn bring it back
and now that I’ve actually been to a lidl I’m even more obsessed!! this store is full of amazing deals and variety, my only curiosity is - why no baskets? only carts? you have something to learn about brooklyn shoppers. anyway
check out my favorite budget-friendly finds from my first trip below ✨✨
Lidl Croissants
49 cents!!
The famous Lidl croissant 😍😍 I was floored by how cheap these are. My general impression of the store is that it’s like a mini Costco, which is still huge for a city grocery store, and these croissants taste like the ones you get in a 12-pack from Costco. For the size, price, and taste, you can’t complain!!
Take & Bake 16-inch Pizzas
$7.09
Continuing the Costco comparison, another great bargain for something you’d find at the big box store. I’ll need a car to carry out one of these bad boys on a big shopping trip sometime soon, but chicken bacon ranch is calling my name!
Lidl Tortellini & Ravioli - Various
~$3.15
Another store I would compare Lidl to is Trader Joe’s for their private label items, and look at the value and variety for these packaged pastas!
Lidl Eggs
$2.89
I mean, come on. 18 eggs for that price? And some of the organic and cage-free options are super well priced also.
Lidl Assorted Macarons
$14.99
Look how cute these are, and you get 36 in a box!
Foster Farms Mini Corn Dogs
$10.49 (40-ct.)
I love corn dogs, but I don’t eat beef or pork generally, so I miss out. Imagine my surprise when these just happen to be chicken-based! These lil doggies were definitely in the after-school snack rotation as a kid, and they’re just as delish now. I wouldn’t say that this is the best bargain the store has to offer, but at any Key Food around the city they would be double the price, let’s be real.
Lidl Organic Shells & Cheese
$1.69
Annie’s who?? jk I love Annie, but Annie’s mac costs me like double this price…and Lidl brand is just as good. I feel like I’m giving the impression that I live off stovetop mac and frozen novelties. Sometimes I have salad too.
Solevita Organic Ginger & Lemon Shot
$2.09
This tiny airline-sized drink is made with just a few ingredients - apple juice, ginger, and lemon. I love a super spicy ginger shot, so I was intrigued by a canned one. I would say it doesn’t compare to a real fresh ginger shot, it just tastes like spicy apple juice. But I like that!
