I’m like dropping hints that it’s my birthday…by doing a birthday-flavor themed blog post🎂 How do you really describe “birthday cake” flavor? Vanilla, butter, almost a cotton candy-like sugariness, but the most important thing is obviously the rainbow sprinkles. Am I like, the biggest fan of birthday cake flavor? No❤️ but I love a good theme.
Dr. Praeger's Birthday Cake Littles
$7.69 – Target, Brooklyn, NY
Ah, my favorite treat! Frozen littles! What are they, you ask? They’re made with 5 different veggies. But what are they? They’re vegan, gluten-free, fun shapes! No, but like, what does it taste like? Tasty meets veggie and flavor meets goodness, of course! Is it supposed to be sweet or savory, like when do I eat these? They’re crave-able and veggie-forward!
These questions and many more are posed by the existence of Dr. Praeger’s Birthday Cake Littles…so let me actually answer them. They have the look and feel of a chicken nugget, and the taste of like, a sweet bean? The smell of cauliflower and birthday cake? I tried these with barbecue sauce and it was not good but I couldn’t eat a nugget without some sort of sauce…The only situation I can think of these being served is among a table full of other snacks at a child’s birthday party, where several littles have small wet bites taken out of them.
Birthday Cake Oreos
$7.49 – Key Food, Brooklyn, NY
I couldn’t remember having this flavor of Oreo in recent years, so I wanted to give them another try. I actually bought them for Danny’s birthday to make Oreo truffles, sorry if that makes it seem like I had ulterior motives by blogging about it now. These pretty much taste like regular Oreos, but sweeter and overwhelmingly vanilla scented. (You’ll notice this as a theme throughout the post.) Even after washing them a few times, my fingers smelled like birthday cake icing for the whole day. Is that like a pro or a con for you?
Kodiak Birthday Cake Pancake Mix
$6.59 – Target, Brooklyn, NY
Considering that Kodiak is marketed to be a protein-packed pancake mix, I like that these really taste and cook up like a regular mix! There’s no whey/protein powder flavor, and these came out perfectly browned and fluffy. I definitely don’t think you need the birthday cake flavor unless you love that kind of thing, the original flavor is great too. But the sprinkles are fun, there’s a little extra sweetness, and protein means you could eat these every day, I’m pretty sure.
Annie’s Birthday Cake Bunny Grahams
$5.29 – Whole Foods, Manhattan, NY
Realizing that almost all of these items are marketed toward children, well guess what, I’m nurturing my inner child, if my inner child was a bougie Upper East Side kid who’s not allowed to have Red-40. Not only are these birthday cake flavored, they’re bunny flavored! I think it would be very easy to eat several handfuls of these (essentially Teddy Graham) snacks.
Made Good Birthday Cake Granola Bars
$4.49 – Whole Foods, Manhattan, NY
Are these just Quaker chewy bars rebranded for Whole Foods shoppers? I think so. I’ve run out of ways to describe the flavor of turning another year old. These are probably my favorite product of the week, something I would actually repurchase. These really just taste like a chocolatey granola bar, and that’s what I actually enjoy lol
